MxMo XX, One Week Away

Mixology MondayJust a reminder that next Monday, October 15, is Mixology Monday. Hosting this round will be Natalie over at The Liquid Muse, and for this edition Natalie has chosen Pairings. As in “food and cocktail” pairings — Natalie’s putting the whole “what to drink with what you eat” concept into practice, asking participants to put together a favorite food & cocktail combo.

This should be an interesting one — some drink bloggers (me, for instance) may be pulled a little out of their comfort zone, while food bloggers may see this as a crossover opportunity. If your skills or interests don’t extend that far beyond the bar, though, you can still play along — there’s no rule that says this has to be something you make yourself, at home. If you have a particular happy hour combo you like to grab after work, by all means share it with everyone (figuratively speaking, of course — you can still keep your plate of seared scallops all to yourself).

While it’s not unusual for me to come up with a Mixology Monday drink on the fly, I need to do some advance planning for this, and probably make a special trip to the grocery store. Or, I could stick with the tried and true, like breaking out salted nuts from Trader Joe’s and a chunk of suspicious-looking cheese that’s been kicking around the fridge for a couple of weeks, and go from there. Let’s see what happens on Monday.

AND, while you’re here, keep in mind that:

  • Monday, November 12, is MxMo XXI, hosted by Jay at Oh, Gosh, and the topic is Gin.
  • Monday, December 3, is MxMo XXII, hosted by Jeffrey Morgenthaler, and the topic is Repeal Day.

  1. Hey Paul,
Thanks for the announcement. I am excited to host this! It will be fun to see what people come up with.

And, for anyone feeling intimidated about the food / drink pairings – don’t be! This is all for fun, so even if your idea of gourmet fare is extra sour cream on your nachos, just share a cocktail that complements the nuances of melted velveeta!

xo Natalie (aka: The Liquid Muse)

  2. Plowman’s lunch and a fine ale never did a many any harm.

Thank goodness for Taboo Table and Trader Vic’s Book of Food and Drink, or this would be a much tougher challenge for me.

  3. Hi Paul,

I am looking forward to next Monday and its MxMo!
    And Natalie- really nice topic!
I think I will go one story down (50th floor) to the chef de cuisine of Vu’s Fine Dining, our sister outlet, and ask him, if we could do a joint action for this fantastic issue – I am quite an ambitious hobby cook, however Emil is a real professional – a really impressive gourmet chef and I would like to know, what we both could put together…

Initially I thought about Colin Fields perfect serve of the Remy Martin Style Masters (2005) – Remy Martin Extra on the rocks with a buttered toast covered of a insanely thick slice of white truffle, but no, this is not my style!

See you for the next MxMo!

    Cheers!

    Dominik MJ
